Getting started
Install Spoor, craft a pair of Tracker Goggles and read your first trail.
Walk across grass, dirt or sand in Minecraft and you leave nothing behind. Spoor changes that. Animals, mobs and players leave footprints that fade over time. Craft a pair of Tracker Goggles and you can read them: who passed, how long ago, and which way they went.

Your first trail
Section titled “Your first trail”- Find some soft ground. Prints appear on grass, dirt, sand, gravel, mud, snow and similar ground, not on stone, wood or other hard floors. See Footprints and surfaces.
- Watch something walk. Walking animals, mobs and players all leave prints. Standing still, flying, swimming and riding leave none.
- Craft Tracker Goggles from one leather, one stick and one compass, in any arrangement.
- Wear them. Right-click to put them on your head, or place them in a Curios head slot if you have Curios. Holding them is not enough.
- Look at a print within six blocks. The goggles tell you the species, its age, its condition and whether the creature was walking, running or landing. See Reading tracks.
- Follow the scent line. The trail you are looking at shows a faint stream of drifting specks toward the next step. See Scent line.
Do I need the goggles?
Section titled “Do I need the goggles?”Not by default. Everyone can see tracks without goggles. Unaided, a print stays fully clear for 60 seconds, then fades out by three minutes. With the goggles you can read the same trail for its whole life, ten minutes by default, and the prints glow a little, so they are easier to see at night.
A server can switch to Item mode, where only players wearing the goggles see tracks at all. See Servers and modpacks.
Things to know
Section titled “Things to know”- Prints are only a visual effect. They do not dig the ground or change how you walk.
- Tracks are kept in memory only. They are gone when the world or server restarts.
- The scent line shows where a creature was heading, not where it is now. Spoor does not find the animal for you.
