Tracker Goggles

Tracker Goggles are Spoor’s one item. Wear them and the ground starts talking: each print tells you who made it, how long ago and how they were moving.

Ingredient Count
Leather 1
Stick 1
Compass 1

The recipe is shapeless: put the three ingredients anywhere in a crafting grid. It makes one pair of goggles, listed with the equipment recipes.

  • Right-click to put them on in your helmet slot.
  • With Curios installed you can wear them in a Curios head slot instead. The item’s tooltip says the same: Wear on your head or in a Curios head slot to read trails.
  • Holding them is not enough. Only worn goggles let you read tracks.
  • They have no durability, so they never wear out. There is no filter key and nothing to cycle.

Without goggles With goggles
Prints shaded like the ground they are on Prints tinted by category: animals amber, mobs coral, players blue
Normal world light Prints glow a little: clear prints brighter, faint prints dimmer
Fully clear for 60 seconds, gone by three minutes Readable for the print’s whole life (ten minutes by default)
No reading Species, age, condition and gait of the print you look at
No scent line A faint scent line along the trail you are looking at
  • Animals: amber
  • Mobs: coral
  • Players: blue

See Reading tracks and Scent line for how to use them.

On a server set to Item mode, tracks are shown only to players wearing the goggles. Without them you see no prints and no track particles at all. When you take the goggles off, tracks disappear on your screen straight away. See Servers and modpacks.

  • You can read a print up to six blocks away, as long as nothing solid is in the way.
  • How far away prints reach you depends on the server’s mode, not on the goggles: 24 blocks in Visible mode (visibleRange) and 32 blocks in Item mode (trackerRange) by default, for everyone who receives them.
  • A goggle wearer receives up to 600 nearby prints at a time. A player without goggles receives up to 300, and only prints younger than three minutes by default.
  • The goggles make prints that still exist clearer. They do not extend range or bring back expired prints.
  • Through the goggles each print takes 38% of its category tint, and glows as if lit by block light of 0.30 + 0.60 × its clarity.
  • Whether you are wearing the goggles travels with every server update. When you take them off in Item mode, your own screen hides tracks at once and the server catches up within five simulation ticks.
